Ivan Tikhonov

Ivan Tikhonov was born 15th of October, 1918 in village Kosilovo (Moscow region). The father was the tailor, winter worked in Leningrad, and summer came in village. When he was 7 years old the father has brought to Ivan diatonic harmonika, with two handles and with different sounds on squeeze-in and squeeze-out, and at age of 8 years the father has brought to him chromatic harmonika. All free time Ivan spent with harmonika, took lessons at professional player. Soon he has learnt all popular melodies, under which danced youth. He began to play dances solo and in a duet.

In 1929 all family has left tor Leningrad. There in the market of musical instruments they have bought new bayan with Leningrad system. In 1932 he entered and in 1938 has graduated from the musical college at Conservatoire on class of the teacher A. Gefelfinger. Then he started to work in ensemble of songs and dancings of arts department at Leningrad City Council. In 1939 Tikhonov started his military service and he served in ensemble of songs and dancings of boundary armies of the Leningrad district. During war he performed in bases of the Leningrad front and for workers of blocked city.

In 1946 Ivan Tikhonov was invited to work as the soloist in the Leningrad Radiocommittee. The performances in the programs of the Leningrad radio have begun. In 1948 the bayan duet V. Kuznetsov - I. Tikhonov was founded. Repertoir of the duel included own arrangements of Russian and other national songs and dances, transcriptions of classics. In parallel Tikhonov worked in ensemble of songs and dancings of Leningrad Military District. The duet soon has won the large popularity at the radio listeners. In 1951 Ivan Tikhonov started to work only in Leningrad Radiocommittee. In 1953 the duet Tikhonov - Kuznetsov was invited in Moscow to auditions for concert trip to Sweden. In 1954 the concert trip to Sweden and Norway with the large group of the actors from all USSR was held. After trip the duet was invited to work in Leningrad Concert Agency (Lengosestrada).

After ten years playing in duet with Vladimir Kuznetsov, in 1958 the musicians separated: V. Kuznetsov began to work with T. Strelkova (vocal) and I. Tikhonov started to work with known sisters Fedorov's vocal quintet (until 1981), and also as the solo bayan player. In his solo repertoir there were pieces of world classics. He has also composed many pieces for bayan, arrangements of Russian national songs and ancient Russian waltzes. The time of active performances on the country and abroad (Bulgaria, Japan, Korea, Hungary. Poland) began for him.

Since 1982 I. Tikhonov was engaged in solo job and performances with different vocalists: with Tamara Trifonova, performed with singer of Russian folk songs Tamara Piatniza.

In 1989 Ivan Tikhonov was retired on pension, but continues actively to work Participated in ten international festivals of music for accordion (1985-1994), which with the large success held in the Leningrad concert hall.

In 1992 the group of the elderly people of St. Petersburg was invited to participate in the European assembly of the elderly people which were taking place in Copenhagen (Denmark). I. Tikhonov was in structure of a delegation with his constant companion -bayan. For two days Ivan Tikhonov has prepared with the companions the remarkable art program, which with the large success was shown before delegations from 39 countries. Despite of the impressive age, Ivan Tikhonov constantly is in richer events, accepts active participation in various holidays, acts in concerts, lifting mood to thousand fans of music, admirers of bayan.

In 1996 Ivan Tikhonov have got the rank of the Honored artist of Russian Federation.
