Leonid Hrihorovich Kozelchuk was born on September 9, 1946 in Mozdok (Northern Osetia), in a family of a teachers.
His mother knew and sang a lot of Ukrainian folk songs. In his childhood, the boy learned to play the violin and guitar on his own.
He graduated from the Kishinev conservatory (accordion department). His composition teacher was a famous composer Zlata Tkach.
In 1985 he became a laureate of the International Composition Contest held in Prague. The most of his pieces are written for
the accordion.
His most known works are such as follows: "Two Sonatas for Accordion Playing", "Two Suites for the Youth", "A Ukrainian Suite",
"Eighteen Вulgarian Melodies Adopted for Accordion Playing", "Seven Moldavian Dances'', "Play, or School,
a Quartet-Quintet Circle", "Transposition School".
Nowadays, Leonid Kozelchuk works as a teacher at the Dnipropetrovsk Music College.
