This collection is dedicated to creative activity of the great Leningrad accordionist Yuri Shakhnov (1918-1991)
The professional pianist, Yuri Shakhnov within a naval service has learnt to play
accordion, with which has connected in further all creative life.
In 1941 - 1945 years Yuri Shakhnov - participant of a defence of an island Khanko,
Inhabitant of blocked Leningrad, actor of Red Bannered Baltic fleet theatre which
has repeatedly visited with concert brigades on the Volkhov and Leningrad fronts.
He is the cavalier of a medal "For a defence of Leningrad".
Since May, 1945 for 1961 - soloist of a jazz-orchestra of the Leningrad radio (from
middle 50th years - under conducting by N.Minkh). These years - prime of creativity
of the musician: live radio programs, concerts, recordings, performances with the
own ensemble (septet), with the singers. In these of years he becomes popular in
all Soviet Union.
Since 1961 up to the end of life Yuri Shakhnov - soloist of Leningrad Concert Agency
(Lenconcert). These years the active concert activity of the soloist-accordionist
and unique master of improvised accompaniment proceeds.
Yuri Shakhnov played only his own compositions or arrangements. His playing is al¬ways
different from anybody else: it differs by the special musicality, shine, faultless
taste, opens features of the instrument. The compositions arranged or composed by
him, amazes with the harmony, and counterpoint mastership causes admiration.
